Overview

This course will empower students to acquire relevant educational knowledge and skills to function as effective teachers, education officers or lecturers. It is a one year professional teaching qualification programme recognized by the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) under the Ministry of Human Resource Malaysia.

With the PGDT, learners will learn about the current trends and issues in education, about the use of technology in a learner-centered environment, engaging in critical and reflective analysis leading to the integration and application of a variety of research-based methods and processes in the class-rooms.

Learning Outcomes

The course is designed to integrate a deep understanding of the subject matter with the development of key skills and competencies, allowing students to adapt to a rapidly changing, dynamic, and competitive global marketplace. The aim of the PGDT program is to educate and train the students:

  1. on the theories and practice of pedagogy to enable them to develop core knowledge skills, and attitudes required for effective teaching in higher education,
  2. on the knowledge and strategies of engaging their students in active and meaningful learning,
  3. in developing their capability in conducting educational research in to benefit teaching and learning,
  4. to acquire and practice professional knowledge and attitude in the context of teaching,
  5. to efficiently utilize technology-enhanced approach to teaching and learning,
  6. to effectively apply quality and appropriate educational assessment approaches in evaluating learning
Intakes & Requirements

Intakes: 

Entry Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent, as accepted by the Senate; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not achieved a CGPA of 2.75, be admitted depends on rigorous internal evaluation; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent but not achieve CGPA of 2.50, may be admitted subject to Minimum 5 years working experience in the relevant field.

    • Principles of Educational Management
    • 21st Century Teaching and Learning
  3. Project Paper
